Creative Publics Lab: Experiments in Participatory Politics
Creative Publics Lab is an incubator for new political theories and practices arising from digital culture. Housed at the SFU School of Communications, it brings together senior undergraduate students with media practitioners to design, develop and experiment with civic media projects that advocate for social change in local communities.
By experimenting with media-based organizing as a form of pedagogy and community building, Creative Publics Lab aims to better understand how post-secondary institutions can become innovation hubs for participatory politics and civic media.
The lab is part of the PhD research of Tara Mahoney, co-founder and creative director of Gen Why Media, and supervised by Dr. Stuart Poyntz, Associate Professor in the School of Communication at Simon Fraser University.
